No. All screenshot scanning, OCR text extraction, categorization, and search indexing happen locally on your device. Your images never leave your phone. The only external call is when you use AI search, which sends text metadata (not images) to Google Gemini.

ShotShelf supports 6 scripts: Latin (English, Spanish, French, etc.), Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Devanagari (Hindi, Sanskrit, etc.). You can set your preferred script in Settings for better accuracy.

Type a question like "show me flight tickets from last month" and ShotShelf sends your query along with screenshot metadata to Google Gemini. It returns the most relevant matches. No images are sent, only text. Free for everyone, limited to 5 searches per minute.

"Remove from app" hides a screenshot from ShotShelf only — the original file stays in your photo library. "Delete from device" permanently removes the screenshot from your phone after system confirmation. You're always in control.

ShotShelf is designed to process screenshots locally on the device.

AI Features

ShotShelf uses Google Gemini for two optional AI features: natural language search and smart categorization. When used, screenshot metadata and recognized text (not images) may be sent to Google's Gemini API. AI categorization only activates when keyword matching is uncertain. Both features are rate-limited and can be avoided by using standard keyword search.

Data Sharing

ShotShelf does not require an account to function. ShotShelf does not upload the user's screenshot library to a remote server for core app functionality. ShotShelf does not sell user data.

Advertising

The free version of ShotShelf displays ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. Users can remove all ads with a one-time in-app purchase.
